Arsenal Transfer News: Barcelona Going For A Song?

Tito Vilanova refusing to rule out a move for Arsenal's Cameroonian defensive midfielder.

the Daily Mail, Arsene Wenger might face a fight to keep Cameroonian defensive midfielder Alex Song at the Emirates with Spanish giants Barcelona said to be keen to bring him in. Those reports state that new Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova has refused to rule out a move for the 24-year-old Arsenal midfielder. The Prima Liga runners-up have reportedly identified and sounded out Song in response to their need for defensive reinforcements, as they look to regain ground on last season's Spanish champions and great rivals Real Madrid. The Mail are also suggesting that current Catalan players Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta have both also added their own voices to the growing calls for the Cameroon international to join them at the Nou Camp. The Cameroon international, who signed for Wenger from Bastia in 2006 enjoyed a strong season last year after a comparatively disappointing 2010/11 term, and according to the Mail is looking for reward from the capital club once talks over a new contract commence in the coming weeks. Song is said not to be looking for a move, but the prospect of joining Barcelona will surely turn his head, and the Mail confirm that he wants to listen to what the Catalans have to offer. Despite his reported interest, in the wake of his side's friendly victory over Man United, Barcelona boss Vilanova refused to be drawn on the speculation when asked about Song, though crucially he failed to rule out a bid, which has got the usual media sources suggesting a move is imminent...
