Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Only Interested In "Special Players"

By Joseph Dempsey /

BBC. Wenger, who is under increasing pressure to spend big with just a little over a week left to run of the transfer window, has only signed Yaya Sanogo on a free from Auxerre so far. Arsenal want to sign Real Madrid striker and winger Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria along with Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye. Referring to his current squad of players, who defeated Fulham 3-1 at the weekend, Wenger remarked:

"They are special and if I want to add something it has to be special."
The Gunners have endured a relatively frustrating summer transfer window so far and have missed out on a series of top targets, such as Stevan Jovetic, Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez. The Londoners have also seen a £10 million bid for Cabaye rejected by Newcastle, prompting the France international to go on strike. Mathieu Flamini is rumoured to be on his way to the Emirates on a free transfer, five years after leaving Arsenal for AC Milan. Wenger also wants to bring in a goalkeeper and a defender before next Tuesday's transfer deadline, and has been linked with a move for QPR's shot-stopper Julio Cesar.
