Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners To Finalise Deal For Gonzalo Higuain

Arsenal are set to finalise a club record-breaking deal to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid, according to the Daily Mail. It is understood the 25-year old has agreed a four-year contract which, including bonuses, is worth up to £150,000-per-week. The Gunners are also believed to have agreed a £22 million fee with Real for the striker, who scored 16 goals in La Liga last season. Only the fact the Spanish club are currently without a manager is delaying the completion of the transfer. Paris Saint-Germain boss Carlo Ancelotti is widely expected to be appointed as Jose Mourinho's successor at the Bernabeu within the next few days, at which point the deal is expected to be signed off. The Argentinian will become the top earner at the Emirates, surpassing Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski, who earn in the region of £100,000-per-week. Higuain's capture will also smash the club's record transfer fee, which currently stands at the £15 million paid to Zenit St Petersburg for Andrey Arshavin. Now that the deal is on the brink of completion, manager Arsene Wenger has been urged by the club€™s billionaire shareholder Alisher Usmanov to turn his attentions to Manchester United's Wayne Rooney. Wenger has already admitted he would be interested in signing the unsettled England international despite the fact his £250,000-per-week wages would provide a major stumbling block towards a shock move. If Rooney does leave Old Trafford this summer however, it is Chelsea who are favourites to sign him.
