Arsenal's summer frustrations look set to be at an end as Luis Gustavo is on the verge of joining from Bayern Munich according to The Telegraph. The Gunners have found it tough going in this transfer window after they missed out on the signing of Gonzalo Higuain and lead a drawn out pursuit of Luis Suarez. However, it is now believed that the London club are very close to a £14 million deal for the Brazilian international Gustavo. Arsenal currently possess only one top-class defensive midfielder in Mikkel Arteta and Gustavo would add real depth to that area. Arsenal now want to push the deal along and get it completed before the start of the season on Saturday. Gustavo has fallen down the pecking order at the European Champions and Guardiola is prepared to let him go. Gustavo has made 100 appearances for Bayern Munich over the last three seasons since joining from Hoffenheim and became a big part of their squad. With Thiago signing from Barcelona though, Bayern's midfield looks awfully crowded and with Gustavo needing first team football to build on his ten Brazil caps and get in next year's World Cup squad, the deal seems to be in everyone's best interest. Arsenal fans will be hoping this deal will be the first of many with an improved bid for Luis Suarez expected this week as well as a possible one for Wayne Rooney. Is Gustavo the right man for Arsenal? Where else do the Gunners need to improve to make a title challenge? Thoughts welcome below.
