Arsenal Transfer News: Mesut Ozil Deal Very Close, Medical Underway

By Simon Gallagher /

Sky Sports News and John Cross at the Mirror, the deal to bring Mesut Ozil to the Emirates is nearing completion. Sky Sports suggest that the German international midfielder is currently undergoing a medical in Germany ahead of the big money move to the Emirates. Here's SkySports take on it:

Arsenal are understood to be closing on a deal for Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil. He is believed to be undergoing a medical in Germany, with the Gunners looking to avoid any potentially costly delays.
Cross meanwhile confirmed that Ozil wasn't keen on a move initially, but that Arsenal have convinced him, and that he will line up through the middle of Arsenal's attack, with Santi Cazorla out on the left. That deal would cost Wenger's side a massive £42.5 million, which would significantly eclipse the biggest fee ever paid for Andrey Arshavin, which was just £15million. Conspiracy theorists had mischieviously suggested that Tottenham Hotspur supremo Daniel Levy had attempted to delay the Gareth Bale move to Real Madrid in order to impede Arsenal's capacity to deal with Madrid, according to Sky Sports Spanish correspondent Guillem Balague, but such claims will look more foolish if this speedy deal is completed. Arsenal have also been linked with a £25m move for Angel di Maria, as well as a potential loan deal for Chelsea striker Demba Ba and a permament move for Palermo striker Abel Hernandez. If all of these deals come off, it will be a successful end to a relatively quiet and disappointing transfer window for Arsene Wenger, who has been linked with major deals throughout the summer.
