Arsenal Transfer News: Wesley Sneijder To Emirates For £20 Million?
While it’s not as if Arsenal are struggling in terms of playmakers, it’s clear that Sneijder is the quality of player that most clubs would love to welcome.
Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Arsenal will make a move for Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder with the funds freed up from selling Robin van Persie. The Dutch midfielder came within a hairs breadth of joining Manchester United last summer and still reportedly maintains high hopes of moving overseas to an English club and Van Persie's contract situation could lead to his Premier League dream. It has been indicated that a cool £20 million bid from Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will be just the right encouragement for Inter Milan to sell Sneijder, who it's suggested isnt an essential part of coach Andrea Stramaccionis system. Inter Milan have endured a shaky time in recent seasons which has no doubt been exacerbated by the recent high turnaround of club managers since Jose Mourinho left them as the kings of Serie A and Europe. With The Nerazzurri unable to offer Sneijder even Champions League this next season, the Euro 2012 star is believed to be desperate for a move away from the Italian club like his former team-mates Lucio, Diego Forlan and the wantaway defender Maicon this summer. Sneijders opening season for Inter Milan was a great success, however the last two campaigns have been fairly disastrous and last seasons sixth place finish was the team's poorest placing in over ten years. Although the signing of Sneijder, one of Europe's top talents, would be seen as a major coup for the usually thrifty Wenger, especially if he loses contract rebels Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott, its not as if Arsenal are struggling in terms of playmakers by any measure. With Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshire and Tomas Rosicky padding their ranks to name but a few, its clear that Sneijder is the quality of player that Arsenal fans would welcome with open arms.
