Having already made some impressive waves in the transfer market this summer - and with surprising swiftness, by their traditional standards - Arsenal thought they had pulled off another bit of impressive business earlier this week, with the news that young Georgios Spanoudakis had defected from Barcelona to join them. The 15-year-old defensive midfielder had been with the Spanish side since leaving Eintracht Frankfurt as a 10-year-old, and is widely considered one of his country's greatest prospects, but he will now not follow in the footsteps of Cesc Fabregas as initially reported. It seems that those initial reports were somewhat premature, as it has now been revealed that the statuesque midfielder has in fact returned to his homeland to sign for Stuttgart. He will take his ball-skills and considerable talent to that side, rather than becoming the seventh player to join Wenger's side from Barcelona in the wake of moves by Cesc Fabregas, Fran Merida, Jon Toral, Hector Bellerin, Julio Plequezuelo and, most recently Alexis Sanchez. The confirmation of his move to Germany - which is apparently possible thanks to the lack of definition in rules governing the movement of non-professional teenagers (which Arsenal would have taken advantage of themselves to take him from Barca) - came on Twitter: https://twitter.com/DinoRadoncic6/statuses/494840465263718400 Spanoudakis endorsed that message by retweeting the sentiment, and then offered his own confirmation on Twitter saying: "Happy to have reached an agreement with a great club like VfB Stuttgart. Cant wait to start the season. Thanks to FC Barcelona for the 5 unforgettable years." The revelation will preumably have little impact on Arsenal's first team picture straight away, but missing out on such a talent can surely only be classed as a massive missed opportunity, especially since has attracted analysis labelling him both the "new Fabregas" and the "new Ozil". In that regard, the fact that he hasn't signed for Arsenal now seems rather mordant. Should Arsenal have done more to sign Spanoudakis?
