Arsenal Transfers: Jenkinson And Gnabry To Play Five-A-Side At Southampton?
Young Arsenal stars set to join what remains of the Saints on loan.
Carl Jenkinson and highly-rated German Serge Gnabry might be heading into the club to fill up some of the first-team spaces vacated by Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw, Dejan Lovren, Callum Chambers and the six unluckiest released players on the not-retained list in the club's history. Flush with unimaginable wealth after selling almost all of their prized assets, Koeman will no doubt be hoping to add more players to his core five-a-side first team - especially with more departures expected - and the two youngsters at Arsenal would fit the bill at least in the short-term, and Arsene Wenger might well be more attracted to sending them out for some development time at a club that would 100% have to play them every game (as the squad currently stands at least). Jenkinson - who now finds himself in the unlikely and unlucky position of being Arsenal's third choice right-back after the signing of Mathieu Debuchy and his new, immediate replacement in the making (good choice leaving Newcastle, Mathieu) Callum Chambers - is also wanted by Sam Allardyce at West Ham, who continues his usual scouting technique of just expressing an interest in the names he reads in the Paper Talk columns linked to other clubs. Big things are hoped of Gnabry, and if Southampton can put some of their fabled training skill into helping develop him then some good might come out of the most baffling summer in the club's history. At least, some good for Arsenal in the long-term, as it's inconceivable at this stage that Wenger would ever let the young German leave the club permanently.
Fresh from seeing his entire team sold to Southampterpool - sorry Liverpool - Ronald Koeman has set his sights on bringing two young Gunners to the south coast to join fellow new signings Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle in what must be the quietest dressing room in the Premier League. As Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin presumably stand by the door with their suitcases packed ready for moves to either Liverpool (of course) or Tottenham, it looks like
