Its that time of year again, the start of the Barclays Premier League 2012/13 season is just over a week away and with it comes that addictive little thing we call fantasy football. Its all well and good talking the talk among your friends and family about your football knowledge, but theres nothing more satisfying than proving it on the fantasy football field. Yesterday we started our team-by-team guide with a look at the best and worst purchases from Arsenal for your fantasy football. We now turn our attention to Aston Villa...
Ones to Watch:
Apologies to any Aston Villa fans, but I can't in all consciousness recommend any Villa players for a fantasy football squad. Agbonlahor and Bent are always good for a handful of goals, but with so many strikers out there to choose from, picking them would just be a waste.
Ones to Avoid:
1. Shay Given (Goalkeeper- £5.0) A shame really, he's always been such a solid goalkeeper in the past. However it seems that his abilities are now on the decline and following a disappointing season last year and a poor Euro 2012 I can't see this season going well. Even if he was the same player he was a few years ago, the Aston Villa defence just isn't solid enough to help him. At £5.0 he's too expensive even to be a backup goalkeeper when you consider the bargains out there. 2. Charles N'Zogbia (Midfield- £6.5) Many predicted a good season for the former Wigan winger last year. They were sorely mistaken. Pulling in a slender 91 points he really didn't get going. I can see Villa really struggling this season and N'Zogbia just hasn't lived up to his potential. 3. The Villa Defence Only 8 clean sheets for Villa last time out and I see this number declining. With Given on the slide and a questionable back line, I can't see Villa picking you up many points at the back.
