FC Barcelona have successfully agreed a deal with Valencia to sign left-back Jordi Alba for £11.7 million. The 23-year-old has attracted interest from all across Europe with teams such as Manchester United, Arsenal and Barcelona all leading the chase. In the end he looks Barca bond with the player set to complete his move to the Nou Camp after he has passed a medical. According to the Daily Mail, the Spanish defender will sign a five-year deal once the player completes several checks. Jordi Alba is seen as replacement for Eric Abidal who announced his retirement last month after recovered from a liver transplant. A Barcelona statement on the club's website read:
'Barcelona announce that today they reached an agreement with Valencia for the transfer of Jordi Alba, who will undergo his medical next week.
Jordi Alba is no stranger to Barcelona having been part of their youth academy from 1998 to 2005. He later signed for Valencia in 2007. Albas last three seasons at club were by far is most successful, he appeared 74 times scoring five goals and is preparing for the Euro 2012 final on Sunday when Spain take on Italy.
