In a busy transfer deadline day Blackburn have quietly conducted some very good business adding two strong signings and shipping out some dead wood in the shape of one of the most controversial strikers the modern game has ever seen. First up, the club have confirmed that Birmingham City centre-half Scott Dann, who had been linked with a move to Arsenal earlier in the summer, has completed a medical at the club and is set to put pen to paper on a long-term contract. The deal is said to be worth £6m, rising to £8m for a player who stood out from the pack of Birmingham's relegated squad last season. Next, Rovers are closing in on the signing of Everton's unwanted Nigerian striker Yakubu, who is completing a medical and is set to sign a contract at Ewood Park. The powerful striker enjoyed a successful spell on loan at Sven Goran Eriksson's Leicester last season, and will add a cutting edge to a strikeforce that has just recently lost Benjani and Kalinic. And finally, the club have released Senegal international, and former Liverpool striker El Hadj Diouf, who spent the end of last season on loan at Rangers and who isn't rated by current Rovers boss Steve Kean. He is now free to find another club after his contract was terminated.
