Breaking News: Bayern Munich Sack Manager Carlo Ancelotti
That 3-0 defeat to PSG was the final straw...
Bayern Munich have sacked manager Carlo Ancelotti this afternoon after just under 15 months in charge, according to Sky Sports sources.
The Italian officially became Bayern boss in July, 2016, but has been relieved of his duties following talks on Thursday. His last match in charge was a crushing 3-0 Champions League defeat to PSG in France on Wednesday, and he won't take to the dugout for Bayern's crunch Bundesliga game away to Hertha Berlin on Sunday.
Ancelotti, who also had spells at clubs like AC Milan, Juventus, Chelsea and Real Madrid, was previously PSG boss himself between 2011-2013. It's a defeat against his former employers that sealed his fate at Munich however. The 58-year old had already been under pressure following a 2-0 loss to Hoffenheim on September 9 and a 2-2 home draw with Wolfsburg last Friday.
Now, Bayern Munich's board have apparently lost confidence in his ability to turn things around and will surely look to appoint a new manager quickly. The Bavarian giants are currently third in the Bundesliga table, 3 points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund.
