Burnley Transfer News: Chelsea's Danny Drinkwater In Loan Move Talks
The 29-year-old Premier League winner is edging closer to a move to Turf Moor.
Danny who?
Despite winning the Premier League with Leicester City in 2015/16 and becoming an England international, Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater has pretty much fallen off the face of the Earth in recent years.
Now though, it appears that the 29-year-old could be about to seal a loan move to Burnley.
The BBC is reporting that the three-capped England man is close to moving to Turf Moor on a season-long loan.
Since joining Chelsea for £35 million in the summer of 2017, Drinkwater has remarkably made only five Premier League appearances for the Stamford Bridge outfit – and didn’t feature in a single league game last season under Maurizio Sarri.
Drinkwater was a key component of the Leicester side that shocked the footballing world back in 2016, yet this big-money move to Chelsea has seen the former Manchester United man’s career hit a brick wall.
For the busy midfield player, first team football should be a must at his age – and that’s exactly what a move to Burnley would offer up.
Already this summer, Sean Dyche has signed Stoke left-back Erik Pieters, Leeds goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell and orchestrated the return of forward Jay Rodriguez to Burnley from West Brom. Now it’s a case of waiting to see if the ever-grizzled Dyche can get a move for Danny Drinkwater over the line before the 5pm transfer deadline.
