Clarke's appointment as West Brom boss last year was seen as a bold one when he replaced the England-bound Roy Hodgson, yet he surprised his critics by guiding the side into eight place in the Premier League. He also earned plucky draws against Chelsea and Arsenal this term, as well as picking up a shock win over Manchester United at Old Trafford. However, he was sacked after a poor run of form that saw Albion win only once in their last 10 league matches since that victory at the Theatre of Dreams, leaving them in 16th.
