Cheick Tiote Fit For Newcastle United vs Manchester City

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew confirmed after the game that Tiote had suffered a gash on his eye and would need to be seen to, however he would be able to play against Manchester City.

Cheick Tiote was laid down on the Stamford Bridge grass for almost ten minutes last night in Newcastle's incredible 2-0 win against Chelsea. The 25-year-old tough tackling midfielder was caught with a flying elbow from John Obi Mikel at the hour mark of last night's contest and was laid out with what looked like a serious facial injury that saw him stretchered off and looking worse for wear. Thankfully, when the Ivorian international was seen to off the pitch by the medical team, his injury was not serious and he will be fit for Newcastle's huge game against Manchester City on Sunday. Tiote suffered a deep gash above his right eye and even told the Newcastle United official website after the game that he actually wanted to continue playing;

I wanted to play on but the doctor said its not possible to come back onto the pitch, so I had to respect his decision, And the team finished the job so Im happy tonight. It was painful but thats football. I am okay and Im just thinking about Sunday now. When I was down, my eyes were groggy and I couldnt see properly but now Im okay and I will be fit for Sunday.

Newcastle kept their Champions League qualification hopes alive thanks to two wonder strikers from Papiss Cisse, the second of which game in the 2nd minute of a lengthy injury time where The Magpies had to defend without their star midfielder. Tiote though was not worried that his side would see the job through without him;

I wasnt worried that wed hold on because after that we stayed focused and played well. Then Papiss scored his second goal for a great result. When I came off I just took a shower and after that, sat in the dressing room so I didnt see the goal only on video! But it was a nice goal, a good finish and thats Papiss he scores every time and its good for us. Chelsea have good players and it was another great win, like the one against Manchester United. We did very well as a team. Everyone did their job and we got a fantastic win.
