Chelsea Transfer News: £30 Million Wayne Rooney Bid Rejected

By Joseph Dempsey /

The Sun. It is now the second time the Premier League Champions have knocked back the Blues advances for the 27-year-old, having also rejected their opening bid of £24 million last month. United continue to stand by their stance that the England international is not for sale, but Rooney could force through a move by handing in a written transfer request. Chelsea's latest bid was just shy of £30 million, according to the report, which is nowhere near the Red Devil's £40 million valuation of the forward. The Londoners don't want to go that high for a player who turns 28 later this year, but this is unlikely to be the end of the saga with manager Jose Mourinho claiming Rooney is the club's only transfer target this summer. The Portuguese manager is even prepared to wait until the final day of the transfer window to get his man, which would set up a tense deadline day on September 2. He knows a deal is unlikely to be sealed until after Chelsea meet United in the league on August 26 - a fixture that promises to be even more fiery than usual given the Blue's on-going pursuit of Rooney. But the so called "Special One" remains relaxed and is confident about the situation. Rooney is expected to be named in David Moyes' squad for tomorrow's friendly against AIK in Stockholm, but it could be the last time we see the ex-Everton man in a United shirt. The player believes it is in the best interests of both parties for him to be allowed to leave, and may hand in a second transfer request in three years to get his way. The request could even be made by the end of the week, ahead of United's clash with Sevilla for Rio Ferdinand's testimonial on Friday. Rooney had also been expected to feature in that game, though if he hands in a written request to leave he almost certainly won't A United source said:

€œWayne is still hell-bent on going this summer €” he doesn€™t see any way back at United. €œHe has been patient so far, but he is ready to step things up now. Time is running out for him to get this situation resolved and Wayne knows it.€
