Chelsea Transfer News: Bayern Munich To Bid £40 Million For David Luiz?

By Joseph Dempsey /

Sun. Bayern boss Pep Guardiola has a long-standing interest in the 26-year-old that goes back to his days as Barcelona manager and now he wants to sign him for his new club, having taken charge of the European champions this summer. Guardiola reportedly put out feelers for the defender while Luiz was contesting the Confederations Cup for Brazil, which they won after defeating Spain 3-0 in the Final. The defender has since returned for pre-season training with Chelsea under new manager Jose Mourinho, and the Portuguese boss is said to be unconvinced that Luiz can fit into his system. Though Mourinho has publicly insisted Luiz is staying, he has concerns over the player's decision making abilities while in possession. If the Brazilian is deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, a bid-money move to Bayern could beckon, with the Bundesliga giants set to offer a package that could rise to £45 million, including bonuses. That would represent a huge profit for Chelsea, who only signed Luiz for £21 million when they bought him from Portuguese outfit Benfica two years ago. Bayern were beaten by arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund 4-2 in the German Cup Final at the weekend and an insider remarked:

€œThe performance exposed some weaknesses that Pep believes could be sorted out by bringing in Luiz.€
