Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Confident Of Wayne Rooney Summer Deal
Telegraph. Mourinho is convinced Rooney will be his player by the end of the season and will not sign a January 'stop-gap' in the meantime after rejecting a string of forwards offered to him this window. The Blue's obvious need for extra firepower has led to a number of scouts and agents sending in dossiers and reports to the Stamford Bridge club on a variety of different attacking options. But Mourinho has shown little interest in the alternatives put before him and will instead hold out for Rooney, with the 28-year-old's contract running out fast. The situation could change should injury arise or one of Diego Costa of Atletico Madrid, Napolis Gonzalo Higuaín or Monacos Radamel Falcao become available, but the self-styled 'Special One' is intent at the moment of reviving his interest in Rooney. The Red Devil is out of contract next year and his deal will have just 12 months to run this summer if United do not tie him down with a renewal. The champions are convinced however the ex-Everton striker will extend his near-decade-long stay at Old Trafford IF they finish in the top four this season, and insist they will reject any bids. They rebuffed two offers from Chelsea last summer amid Rooney's very public falling out with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and the England star is revived under new boss David Moyes. It remains to be seen though if Moyes can avoid being forced to sell his prized asset for a second time after caving in and selling to United as Everton manager in 2004.
