Chelsea have finally agreed a deal with Marseille to sign Spanish international right-back Cesar Azpilicueta, according to a report in The Daily Mirror. Reports suggest the fee to be in the region of £7 million for the 22-year-old defender who has been pursed by manager Roberto Di Matteo all summer. Reports in France claim the transfer saga finally gathered huge momentum late last night when an agreement between the two clubs was finally agreed. Azipilicueta was left out of last night's Europa League squad for Marseille's fixture against FC Sheriff, a further indication that the deal looks to have been agreed. It is understood that Azipilicueta will sign a five-year contract at Chelsea. The news will come well received by Chelsea fans who are enjoying seeing their side kick-off the 2012/2013 season with a bang. A decisive 2-0 victory against Wigan on Sunday and then last night's thrilling 4-2 win (after coming back from a 2-1 deficit) have propelled the Blues to the top of the Premier League table with a 100% record so far. Though some Chelsea fans may wonder why the club even need a new right-back with the impressive performances of Branislav Ivanovic in that wide back position, particularly his ability to get forward and get goals. The European Champions are riding a good time wave right now and the Blues will be hoping this continues on Saturday evening when they take on Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge which memories of a 2-0 defeat at the end of last season still likely on their mind.
