Chelsea Transfer News: Mourinho Hints At Star Striker Plans For Summer

Jose Mourinho suggested in his press conference today that while Chelsea wouldn't be making any more deadline day signings following the acquisition of Kurt Zouma from Saint Etienne and Croatian youngster Mario Pasalic from Hajduk Split, plans were in place for a big name striker to arrive this summer. Asked why Chelsea hadn't sought an addition to their misfiring strikeforce this season, Mourinho reiterated that he was happy with his options but that the club 'knows what they want' this summer. He said:
"I have been saying for a couple of months we're doing nothing in January. I think people don't understand why we don't do. In the summer you'll understand. "We know what we want. We don't want to do things like emergency plans. [...] To do something now as an emergency plan is not the best thing. "The players we're signing now are the right ones for our future: Matic, Salah, Zouma, a young kid for the future... We don't sign a striker now as an emergency plan to score half a dozen goals to give us half a dozen extra points, whatever they mean for us. So we're waiting for the summer to do the right thing in that area. But no deals. We just know basically what we want, and we know what we want is impossible to get in this transfer window."
While Mourinho was typically reticent to go into detail, Chelsea have been widely linked with Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa and were rumoured to have tabled a last-minute £30m bid. Mario Balotelli and Radamel Falcao have also been mentioned as potential solutions to the club's striking dilemma. Source: ESPN, London 24
