Chelsea Transfer News: Rafa Wants Begovic To Challenge Cech

By Simon Gallagher /

MailOnline, Chelsea are considering a move for Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic as they seek to add some competition to first choice custodian Petr Cech. They say that the Bosnian international has also attracted attention from Manchester United, but that Chelsea are monitoring Begovic's situation after concerns arose about Ross Turnbull's suitability as Cech's deputy. The former Middlesbrough keeper has kept just two clean sheets in 19 appearances for Chelsea, despite his importance to the squad as a home-grown player. Begovic could also be added to the Chelsea squad as a home-grown player, as he now qualifies having started out as a youth player at Portsmouth. The Mail say Stoke would be reluctant to sell - even after the signing of Birmingham City's England international Jack Butland (source: Sky Sports) - but Chelsea are "seriously considering" bringing him in before the transfer window slams shut. Chelsea also have the highly-rated Thibaut Courtois on their books, but the Mail suggest he will be used as part of a deal to bring in Atletico Madrid's Radamel Falcao to Stamford Bridge in the coming summer, as the Belgian 'keeper is currently on loan in the Spanish capital. Begovic himself meanwhile thinks he is going nowhere. No spoke to Sky Sports New to confirm:

"As far as I know (I am staying at Stoke) yes. I€™m in for training today so I'm looking forward to staying and looking forward to the game at the weekend. I don€™t see anything happening now. I think that time€™s passed. I€™m just concentrating on what I need to do here."
