Fenerbahce have taken advantage of the extra two day transfer deadline in Turkey by luring Chelsea midfielder Raul Meireles away from Stamford Bridge, according to BBC Sport. Even though the summer transfer window has closed for English clubs, the Turkish window is open until midnight on Wednesday and the BBC have reported that the former Liverpool player has joined the Turkish side for a fee of £8m. Meireles would be able to link up with former team mate Dirk Kuyt, who joined Fenerbahce earlier this summer from Liverpool. 29-year-old Meireles only joined Chelsea a year ago, on transfer deadline day, from Liverpool for a fee reported at the time by the BBC to be £12 million. He had to sit out the Champions League final after picking up a yellow card in his sides semi-final victory over Barcelona, but had a happier experience in the FA Cup as Chelsea prevailed over former club Liverpool 2-1, the Portuguese international winning the first of his two trophies for Chelsea. He scored six times in 38 appearances for the London club. He won four Primeira Liga Titles with Porto between 2005 and 2009 before his move to England and was PFA Fan's Player of the Year during his spell at Anfield.
