Chelsea Transfer News: Samuel Eto'o Deal Agreed
Telegraph. The double signing could be announced later this week, with Blues boss Jose Mourinho hoping to keep Eto'o inclusion as part of the deal to sign Willian a secret until after tonight's clash with Manchester United. Chelsea, who have been trying to sign Wayne Rooney all summer and have failed with two bids for the England striker, were hoping to unsettle the champions ahead of the clash and were expected to make a new offer at some point after the game. Rooney had hoped to join the Londoners but has now resigned himself to staying at Old Trafford, and is prepared to run down his contract and either leave in January or, more likely, next summer. The purchase of Eto'o, the former Real Madrid and Barcelona star, is seen as a stop-gap tactic until United are prepared to sell Rooney next year, at which point Red Devil's manager David Moyes's resolve to hang on to the star may have softened. The fee for Eto'o is believed to have been £2 million. The Cameroon international is Anzhi's highest-paid player while the Russians are looking to cut costs.
