Chelsea Transfers: 5 Cheaper Alternatives Than Radamel Falcao

By Joe Smith /

Radamel Falcao of Atletico Madrid has been one of those such names throughout the last few transfer windows. After excelling at FC Porto and helping them to a Europa League victory under the stewardship of current Tottenham manager Andre Vilas-Boas, Atletico Madrid forked nearly all of the money they received for Argentine Sergio Aguero on who is now one of world football's hottest properties. But the 27 year old striker would not come on the cheap, with it being rumoured that anything between £35m and £60m, a new British transfer record, to lure the South American star to Stamford Bridge. So who are the other options, the cheaper options, the other players who have the ability or potential to get 20+ goals a season in the Premier League?

5. Edin Dzeko

Despite being Manchester City's top goalscorer in the Premier League this season with 12, and 13 in all competitions, Dzeko is still, staggeringly, on the fringes of the City first team, with Tevez and Aguero more times than not being the favoured strike pairing for Roberto Mancini. A player with surprisingly good feet for a tall man, 6'' 3in Bosnian Dzeko scores an array of goals, especially towards the end of matches, and he could indeed be a massive gain for a Chelsea team who, despite getting a fair few goals, struggle to get some from their forward line and, with the mis-firing Fernando Torres struggling to hit the back of the net on a regular basis this season, a new striker is a must- and Dzeko would come a damn sight cheaper than £35m.
