Chelsea Transfers: Blues Offer Morata & £55m To Juventus For Higuain & Rugani
Is a sensational swap deal on the cards?
Chelsea have reportedly met with Italian side Juventus to offer striker Alvaro Morata and £55 million in exchange for forward Gonzalo Higuain and defender Daniele Rugani.
The story was revealed by Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, who claimed the Blues and Juve met in Nice - where both sides are playing in the International Champions Cup - to discuss the possibility of the transfer, despite Morata being linked to AC Milan.
Higuain has been constantly rumoured to be heading to Stamford Bridge this summer, whilst Morata, who endured a disappointing first season at Chelsea, apparently wants to return to Serie A. Furthermore, Juventus are looking to recoup some of the money spent on Cristiano Ronaldo.
New Blues boss Maurizio Sarri had previously stated that Morata had a future at the club but this sensational swap deal casts doubt on that. Sarri is looking to overhaul his squad with claims that Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois and Willian could all be on their way out.
Bringing in a world class striker like Gonzalo Higuain alongside a highly-rated young defender in Daniele Rugani would certainly be a statement of intent from Chelsea, who already signed midfielder Jorginho earlier this month. Sarri has a tough job on his hands at Stamford Bridge, but if this exchange happens, it may transform the Blues ahead of the new season.
