The pre-talk build towards the squad announcement was that Manchester United defender and former England captain Rio Ferdinand had been forced to pull out of the Championships due to injury. Ferdinand missing out would likely open the door for John Terry to be selected in his place. Another injury victim was believed to be Tottenham Hotspur right-back and "PFA Young Player of the Year" Kyle Walker, which would likely open the door for Liverpool's Glen Johnson to secure a place in the squad. It was believed Roy Hodgson would overlook the experienced England full-back in favour of the more versatile Micah Richards and the Spurs defender after Johnson suffered a bad season at Liverpool and reportedly fell out with Hodgson during his short spell in charge. We will be posting the live updates on which players have been selected and which have been left out.
