Everton Next Manager: Neil Lennon Emerges As Favourite
Team Talk. Wigan boss Roberto Martinez was the bookmaker's early favourite to succeed Moyes at Goodison Park, but the Spaniard has said he will not listen to any approaches until the end of the season as he concentrates on leading the Latics to FA Cup glory and avoiding relegation from the Premier League. A rush of money on Lennon has now seen him steal a march on Martinez with his odds of replacing Moyes slashed from 12/1 to odds-on favourite with Sky Bet. Moyes has called time on his 11-year stay at the Toffee's in order to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford as manager of Manchester United. And Hoops striker Georgios Samaras believes it was only a matter of time until Lennon would be linked with the Goodison Park hotseat. He said:
"I haven't heard anything but all I can say is that when you are playing at a high level like the Champions League and doing well then for sure people will come and watch the players or the manager or whoever is part of the team. "That is normal. When you are doing well, people will come and watch you. But I don't know what he is thinking or what he wants to do."Lennon has won back-to-back SPL championships with Celtic since taking charge in 2010, and has also won one Scottish Cup during his tenure. But Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has said he will seek the opinion of the supporters before appointing Moyes' successor, stating that it is "important that they get the right man." He said:
"Everton supporters are no fools. I will be looking to those supporters, not to get individual names, to get the guidance that true football fans can give to its chairman and its football club. "You can't individually poll each of them, but it is important that they get the right man."
