Everton Transfer News: Kenwyne Jones To Join For £1 Million?
Tuesday's Guardian revealed Toffees manager Roberto Martinez has identified Trinidad and Tobago frontman Jones, 29, as a bargain basement replacement for Nikica Jelavic as the Croatian will join Hull City Tigers. Jones has six months left on his contract at the Britannia Stadium. He has fallen out of favour under Potters boss Mark Hughes this season. Despite being prolific in cup competitions this term, Jones has scored just 13 Premier League goals since moving to the Britannia Stadium from Sunderland for £8 million in 2010. Stoke bolstered their own attacking options with the permanent capture of Stephen Ireland from Aston Villa and the loan signing of Manchester City striker John Guidetti. Jones thus could be sold in the winter window to ensure he is not lost for nothing in the summer. The Potters are believed to be holding out for £3 million. Jones also upset manager Hughes when he failed to report for Sunday's home game with Liverpool. Stoke lost 5-3 a result that leaves them without a win in four Premier League matches and twelfth in the table. Once Jelavic's exit is completed, Everton will be short of striking options as Ivory Coast international Arouna Kone has a knee injury. That leaves loan star Romelu Lukaku and Greek youngster Apostolos Vellios as the only names available to Martinez.
Everton will attempt to sign Stoke City striker Kenwyne Jones for a knockdown price of just £1 million.
