Everton’s 2004/05 Champions League Qualifying Squad – Where Are They Now?

25. Nigel Martyn

Moyes once hailed veteran goalkeeper Nigel Martyn as his €œgreatest signing€ and - although he has tough competition from the likes of Cahill - the experienced shot stopper€™s valiant performances during the 2004-05 season prove that he€™s up there, at least. The former Leeds United man was recruited as backup for Richard Wright, but he made the gloves his own after an injury to Everton€™s first-choice stopper handed him some gametime. Despite being 38, which is like 105 for a footballer, Big Nige shone throughout the campaign, producing the form of his career in the latter half of the season to help maintain Everton€™s Champions League push in the wake of Gravesen€™s exit. Martyn has dabbled in media work and coaching - most recently at Bradford City - since calling time on his playing career, but can usually be found enjoying the good life with his family on the south coast.
