Everton’s 2004/05 Champions League Qualifying Squad – Where Are They Now?

8. James Beattie

It was a difficult first season in blue for Everton€™s £6-million signing James Beattie, who joined the club from Southampton in January 2005. A head butt on Chelsea defender William Gallas led to a three-game ban early into his Goodison career, and a spate of injuries limited his first-team opportunities even further. The following season was more fruitful for Beattie, but he would eventually fall out of favour with Moyes, who sold him to Sheffield United for £4 million in 2007. The forward ended his playing career with League Two outfit Accrington Stanley in 2013 and was appointed as the club€™s manager, a role that was terminated little over one year later by mutual consent. He was last seen on Gary Monk€™s coaching staff at Swansea City, leaving the club along with his boss last year.
