Fantasy Premier League Tips: 5 Popular Players You Shouldn't Buy And Why

By Diarmuid Hickey /

Some players have an unerring ability to attract an unreasonable amount of purchasers, despite the facts. They either cost too much, don't play enough, or don't score enough points to warrant their purchase. Some players may have a good start, but we believe it will not continue for various reasons. What marks a great manager out from a good manager is his ability to spot the flash-in-a-pans, his sense of restraint and judgement that keep him from purchasing just because everyone else is. So, here's the list. Let us know what you think of it in the comments below. Is there someone you don't agree with? Perhaps you'd put someone else up here?

5. Stephen Whittaker - Norwich (18% of teams)

Price: £4.1 million Stephen Whittaker has had a fantastic start to the league, scoring a goal in the first match, resulting in 11 Round 1 points. His cheap price attracted thousands of managers to him, and he is now in nearly half a million fantasy teams. However, this is the same Stephen Whittaker that played 1047 minutes last season. He was a back-up toSebastian Bassong's injury woes, and with last year's star defender back in the mix in the League Cup against Bury, along with club captain Russell Martin, there's a good chance two Norwich defenders could be out of a job come Saturday. Odds on it'll be this guy and Ryan Bennett, and he could be a difficult man to offload if his price drops below £4 million.
