Fulham: More Mid-Table Mediocrity

stop laughing at Liverpool... Final League Position: 9th Considering it can be described as the baby sized team of the London, Fulham consistently does well for itself. It's 4 millionth top ten finish in succession makes it another successful campaign for the oddly dressed, Michael Jackson boys in white, especially as they began a new season with their third manager in 3 years. Yet it is beginning to become a little safe and quiet for Fulham, they're seemingly always content in the Premier League and haven't had a risk of the drop since Roy Hodgson first took over, but since they scaled the dizzy heights of a Europa League final they've seemed to stutter in to a stop, it could be the loss of continuity, it could be the difficulty of pushing a moderately sized team with a stadium that a birdhouse I once built in Year 7 DT Woodwork could rival in terms of capacity onwards, but if they don't move along a little quicker there's every risk they may be left behind and a decline will follow. Teams around them like Sunderland, Everton and Liverpool have more potential to push forward with expandable stadiums, more funding and a belligerent Scotsman in charge and other teams who should be at Fulham's level, like Newcastle, have already started to outstrip them. Sadly for Fulham there's is not a situation that is easily remedied unless they pack up and set sail for pasteurs new or ask for more money from already a very generous and, only slightly, crazy chairman. It's sad as they are an attractive team whose only real crime has been giving Mark Hughes a job, but we can overlook that and hope that Fulham can push on, however it may be difficult and with rumours surrounding players like Dempsey, Frei, Dembele it's possible they will become a halfway house for quality players looking to in themselves in the Premier League. Despite that, the rare notion of them having a manager for more than one year means that if Martin Jol has a grand plan, they will only improve next season and with previous purchases like Bryan Ruiz for big money showing that investment is there for the happening they can once again reinstate an intent for Europa League football and challenge for trophies like the League and FA Cup. Summer Transfer Targets: A striker, the Pog would be a perfect acquisition if they could get him on a permanent, if not someone of his ilk would be a terrific prong to their attack. Next Years Goal: Push towards Europa League, if they believe they can take on the Merseyside and Wearside teams then they will be able to, good cup runs would also be solid progress for them.
