Jan Vertonghen's agent claims that Tottenham Hotspur have already made a move to try and sign Ajax's star defender and that talks have already taken place. The news comes just two days after British press revealed that 25-year-old Vertonghen might be on the verge of a move to Tottenham's North London rivals Arsenal. The giant Belgian centre-back had publicly admitted that he is desperate for a move to the Premier League and has been linked with a number of clubs that have watched him this season including Newcastle (Alan Pardew attended Ajax vs Twente last Sunday and has watched Jan playing several times lately), Liverpool and Manchester City, and growing interest from abroad. Vertonghen's impressive run of form has helped Ajax all but clinch the Dutch title and has seen him become the most-wanted defender in Europe for Premier League clubs. The player is out of contract at the end of next season which forces Ajax's hand to have to sell him or risk losing a prized asset on a free transfer next year. They are willing to talk to clubs at around the £7 million mark and it is believed Arsenal have already offered that amount, hoping to play the defender with his Belgian international colleague Thomas Vermaelen. The player himself has already spoken of his admiration for Arsenal and desire to join The Gunners. This interest from Spurs could throw a spanner in the works. Vertonghen's agent Nakhli said;
"There is enormous interest. A number of clubs have made concrete approaches, with Tottenham among them,".
