The Telegraph updates the story and confirms what we have said all along... Barton was in the hunt for money & length of deal; Barton will sign a lucrative four year contract with Queens Park Rangers worth an estimated £80,000-a-week, a considerable improvement on his £56,000-a-week deal on Tyneside. Sky Sports have revealed on Twitter that 28 year old midfielder Joey Barton has signed a four year deal with newly the promoted Premiership club Queens Park Rangers, who secure the player's services until 2015. So in the end Newcastle United, Joey Barton and Queens Park Rangers all got what they wanted. Newcastle get rid of a disruptive influence and high wage earner. Joey Barton gets his future secured with a long term deal that keeps him on a healthy 50k (or so) a week. And QPR get a workhorse footballer who will boost their survival hopes for the new campaign. The people who lose in this deal? The Newcastle United fans who deserve much better than one of their players who has a market value higher than ZERO being sold for nothing, and with no replacement likely to be signed before the transfer window shuts 11pm on Wednesday night. Barton could make his debut for QPR on Saturday at their away game at Wigan. His first game at Loftus Road will see him facing his old teammates when Newcastle United visit for Monday night football LIVE ON SKY on September 12th. That'll be fun.
