It has been almost a quarter of a century since Liverpool last won the title, which is astonishing considering the fact that they have won it an impressive 18 times - the second most times of every team in England's top flight. Back in 2009 they finished second behind Manchester United by 4 points and recorded the highest points tally of any team to finish second in the Barclays Premier League era, but since then have failed to come close. The 2013/14 season started off very well for the reds who were matching Arsenal at the top of the table for most of the first few weeks of the season; they were in fact top of the division on Christmas Day before dropping down to fourth by New Year. Now, after 21 games, they remain fourth but are six points behind the leaders Arsenal and have the second highest goal difference behind Manchester City. Kopites are claiming that if they can return to the Champions League it will be an achievement in itself and they will be happy with the season. Many pundits may have ruled Liverpool out of the title race and it's not difficult to see why; Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City are all looking very sharp this season so it will be a big challenge for Brendan Rodger's men to overtake the leaders. But it won't be impossible and there are in fact a lot of different reasons why Liverpool are still very much in the title race...
