approached Rafa Benitez about the vacant managers position at the club. Both front runner in the betting markets, Roberto Martinez and Andre Villas-Boas, have individually attracted support from just 10% of those voting in our poll. It is a figure which will be of concern to Liverpool owner John Henry who will be keen to appease those fans who were angered by the treatment of club legend Daglish. Many felt his dismissal came too soon, following a season which saw the club win their first trophy in six years, while finishing runners-up in the FA Cup. But ultimately it was the poor performance in the Premier League which led Henry to seek urgent change. Prior to the League Cup victory over Cardiff City, it was Rafa Benitez who led Liverpool to their previous trophy when they defeated West Ham United on penalties to lift the FA Cup. Judging by the shortlist of those either interviewed, or approached, by Henry's Fenway Sports Group in the past few days it is clear that they want a young manager with whom to begin a long-term project. Having already invested well over 100 million in playing staff since their purchase of the club, however, it seems unlikely any new manager would be given a big purse with which to operate. An issue which is likely to prove a stumbling block in getting their man to sign. Stay up to date with all the latest Liverpool news and updates on our blog.
