Liverpool Transfers: 4 Ideal Replacements For Martin Skrtel

By Kieran Milward /

the Mirror this morning that Russian club Zenit St Petersburg could be about to launch a £13million bid for Liverpool central defender Martin Skrtel. This move would be allowed to happen immediately due to the Russian transfer window not closing until the 28th of February, so with this in mind we now look at four possible players Liverpool could replace the Slovakian International with in the summer.

4. Ashley Williams - Swansea City

Ever since Swansea's promotion to the Premier League in 2010 they have been the division's surprise package: they have been exciting going forward and solid at the back and the latter in largely to do with their talismanic captain, Ashley Williams. Williams adapted quickly to the pace and demands of the Premier League and has gone from strength to strength, he combines his power with an excellent timing of tackle and shows a turn of pace when needed, in many respects he is very similar to Skrtel himself. He is also currently the captain of the Wales national team, showing he has the correct mentality to succeed at a "bigger" club and can handle the pressures. He was promoted under Brendan Rodgers and could be keen to link up with the, now Liverpool boss, again so could be easier to procure than other targets.
