Liverpool Transfers: 6 Goalkeepers To Replace Lorius Karius

6. Gianluigi Buffon (Free Agent)

Since making his senior debut for Parma back in 1995, Gianluigi Buffon has built a reputation as one of the greatest goalkeepers to ever play the game. The Italian has played over 500 games for Juventus, winning 11 Serie A trophies, and has captained the side since 2012.

His international accolades are just as impressive, holding the record for the most capped player in the history of the Italian national side with 176, being called up to five World Cups, winning the competition in 2006. These are just a mere drop in the ocean compared to the rest of the trophies, titles, and individual records he holds.

Buffon's trophy case must be one of the fullest of any football player in history, and his age is certainly not slowing him down. In 2017, at 39 years old, Buffon won the Serie A Goalkeeper of the Season award. The Italian has confirmed that he will not continue playing for Juventus next year, so as a free agent, Buffon would actually be one of the cheapest options for Klopp.

However with PSG also looking at his services, Liverpool may find themselves outbid in terms of wages they can pay, and trophies they can win. With the French club Buffon is all but guaranteed the Ligue 1 title, the Parisian giants having won the trophy five out of the last six years.
