Man City Transfer News: Barcelona Want Aguero And Kompany As Second Choices

By Alex Peace /

The Mirror today is reporting that Barcelona could be set to make a move for Manchester City duo Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany this summer. They say that Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has identified the two as possible additions to the Catalans' squad, while also making it his priority to keep striker David Villa and sign Borussia Dortmund centre-half Mats Hummels to bolster their defence. The suggestion of course is that Manchester City fans may not have too much to worry about yet as the article indicates that they will not pursue the City duo unless they fail to keep Villa and miss out on the possible capture of Hummels from Borussia Dortmund. However, David Villa's situation at the Nou Camp is far from resolved, as he has delayed a decision to sign a new contract (according to Marca), in order to assess his options in the summer, after repeatedly having to play on the wing to compensate for Messi through the middle. If he decides to make a move in search of more first team football - and in his preferred position - Barca might then look at Aguero to plug the gap. City would inevitably be reluctant to let both players go with Kompany being club captain and Aguero considered a more likely member of next year's squad, ahead of Tevez and Dzeko who The Mirror suggest could both be considered surplus next year. An ideal world for City fans would no doubt see Aguero teamed up front with a new signing (perhaps Radamel Falcao) next season as City look to claw the Premier league back from Champions Elect Manchester United. How big a miss would Aguero and Kompany be at The Etihad? Who would you like to see replace them if they left? Comments welcome below.
