Man City Transfer News: David Villa Set To Sign

Is Mancini about to invest in Spain's leading scorer?

Talksport have sensationally announced on their website that Manchester City are planning an audacious bid to land Barcelona star striker David Villa before the end of the transfer window. Having been relatively quiet in the transfer window so far - much to Roberto Mancini's chagrin - and having missed out on Arsenal star Robin Van Persie, the Premier League winners could now pull off "the biggest deal of the window" according to the Talksport website. That report says that City will follow up their 2008 deadline-beating sensational swoop for Robinho with a big money move for Villa, who was out for most of last season after breaking his leg during the Club World Cup competition in a match against Al Sadd. According to Talksport, Barcelona would be reluctant to sell Villa, who is still considered one of the best strikers in Europe, but they could be swayed by a bid of between £40-50million for the former Valencia star. Spain's all-time top scorer would become Mancini's second major signing of the summer after Jack Rodwell joined from Everton. Talksport suggest that City are still looking to strengthen their forward line options after Sergio Aguero's injury on the opening day of the season, as well as doubts over the futures of Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli. What do you think Man City fans? Would David Villa represent an intelligent investment at that sort of figure? Are you excited by the prospect of seeing the Spaniard in Sky Blue?
