Luka Modrics future at Tottenham Hotspur looks even more uncertain than normal, with reports suggesting Manchester United are lining up a bid of £22million. The midfield maestro, 26, who wanted to leave for Chelsea last Summer, has been linked to United before but the club were put off by Spurs' high price tag. However as Tottenham failed to make the Champions League again this season, Modric may once again be angling for a move and Tottenham may be looking to recoup costs lost revenue from not playing in the Champions League. United's £22million bid is unlikely to be accepted, with Tottenham valuing the Croatian nearer the £30million mark. But with Sir Alex Ferguson looking to recapture the Premier League title from rivals Manchester City, and bolster an aging midfield which still relies heavily on Ryan Giggs, 38 and Paul Scholes, 37, money may not become too much of an issue, and a deal may be struck between the two clubs before the start of the season. Modric has been admired by Sir Alex for a while, and has likened him to the playing style of Scholes, with his extraordinary passing ability and his willingness to get on the ball and control the game Having already signed Japanese playmaker Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund, and with potential bids lined up for Modric and Everton left-back Leighton Baines in the pipeline, Sir Alex is stepping up efforts to strengthen his side which ended without a major trophy for the first time since 2005. And with many fans itching for a marquee signing, Modric could be just the player they are after.
