Man Utd Battling With Barcelona For £31m Sevilla Defender
Barca said to hold the edge in transfer race.
According to The Mirror, Man Utd are locked in a bidding war with Barcelona for Sevilla defender Clément Lenglet.
Barca are coming closest, reports say, and they're eager to finalise a £31 million fee for the 22-year old Frenchman with their La Liga rivals. That means José Mourinho and United will have to act quickly if they want the player at Old Trafford next season.
Mourinho was impressed by Lenglet's skills when Sevilla dumped Man Utd out of last season's Champions League, and it's said that the boss wants to bring in a top-class centre back to shore up his defensive backline in time for the Premier League kickoff in August.
Amidst all of this transfer speculation surrounding his player, Sevilla's director of football Joaquin Caparros is denying that any contact has been made from either Barcelona or Manchester. He told journalists that Lenglet was happy where he was and "knows Sevilla is a club that can give him opportunities to keep growing".
That may be true, but few players would turn down the opportunity to play for two of the biggest clubs in world football.
