Darren Fletcher is to train with the Scotland National Team, a week after he resumed light training with Manchester United. The midfielder is set to link up with his International teammates this weekend, as he takes yet another positive step on his road to recovery. Scotland boss Craig Levein told The Sun:
€œDarren will be with us at the weekend, he is back in training and he played 45 minutes in a practice match last week.€
The Scot has been battling a chronic bowel illness since November, and hasn't played a competitive match for Manchester United since. In September last year, the same illness caused him to lose a stone in weight, and there were concerns his playing career was all but over. One of the Red Devil's more popular players, his looping header against Chelsea on 6 November 2005 helped end their 40-match unbeaten run in the Premier League and win over the Old Trafford faithful at the same time. A product of the Manchester United Youth Academy, he made his International debut in 2003 and scored his first goal in only his second appearance. He captained the team in 2009 and has since gained 58 caps in a career which has seen him score five times. He last featured for Scotland in a 3-1 defeat to Spain last October.
