Man Utd Transfer News: Asmir Begovic Interest Stepped Up?

By Joseph Dempsey /

Daily Mail. The Premier League leaders reportedly sent scouts to watch the Bosnian play for his country against Greece on Friday, which casts the future of incumbent No.1 goalkeeper David de Gea into fresh uncertainty. The club have been looking for a more commanding presence between the sticks of late after a series of sketchy performances from the Spaniard, while rivals Arsenal and Chelsea have also shown interest in the Stoke shot-stopper. Begovic's own future at the Britannia Stadium was thrown into uncertainty in January when the club signed young Birmingham City keeper Jack Butland, who is set to join the club in the summer. However, the keeper recently insisted speculation over his future is not concerning him. He told Bosnian media outlet Sport.ba:

"I'm not under more pressure because United are watching me. "I'm glad that they do because that means I'm doing something good. It gives me more motivation to do better and better. "I'm pleased that the big clubs are interested in me but as I have said many times - I'm happy at Stoke City because they gave me a chance to play in Premier League. "We will see what will happen in the summer. In football you can never know 100 per cent."
Since arriving from Atletico Madrid in 2011, David de Gea has struggled to cement a starting berth at Old Trafford, and found himself rotated alongside second choice keeper Anders Lindegaard at the beginning of the current season. A series of high profile errors, along with his difficulty in dealing with corners, have added to growing concerns that he lacks the necessary physicality to play in the Premier League. He has been linked with a move back to Spain and to current La Liga Champions Real Madrid in recent times. Should Man Utd replace David de Gea with Asmir Begovic?
