Man Utd Transfer News: Could Red Devils Enter Race For Gareth Bale?

By Joseph Dempsey /

Team Talk. Real Madrid are leading the chase for the 24-year-old after making a world-transfer-record-breaking bid over the weekend, with Tottenham reportedly willing to do business with the Spanish giants. However, it has since emerged no deal has been agreed between the two parties, and that the White Hart Lane outfit are contemplating offers from other clubs - one of whom could be United. The champions came close to signing Bale as a teenager during his days at Southampton but were left disappointed when the Saints refused to respond to their enquiries. Tottenham are resigned to losing Bale, who looks set to end his six-year association with the Londoners after missing the bulk of his side's pre-season campaign and also their first two games of the season. It remains to be seen if United are the club who have entered the bidding for the attacking midfielder, who has also been linked with French moneybags Paris Saint-Germain. United have missed out on a number of midfield targets this summer, such as Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas, while a bid for Marouane Fellaini was rejected last week. It could be then that the Red Devils have now turned their attentions to Bale and have made a dramatic last ditch bid to land the superstar.
