Man Utd Transfer News: Cristiano Ronaldo NOT Returning To Old Trafford?

By Joseph Dempsey /

Metro. The Real Madrid forward left United in a world-record £80 million deal back in 2009 but has been linked with a move back to the club where he spent 6 seasons and won the Champions League. However, Ferguson has dismissed rumours that the 28-year old could be set for a sensational return to the club, and suspects any claims coming from the Portuguese's camp suggesting otherwise are merely contract negotiation tactics at the Bernabeu. Ronaldo has yet to sign a new deal at Madrid and his current contract is set to expire within the next two seasons. Ferguson explained:

"I don€™t think there€™s anything, as far as I€™m aware, that would encourage me to think he would come back here. I don€™t think there€™s anything in that at all. "He has got two years left on his contract. It could be to do with the fact that negotiations are going on for a new contract. I think maybe his agent is playing the game, though I€™m not prepared to comment on that."
Ronaldo will be back at the Theatre of Dreams tomorrow night though as the reigning Spanish Champions take on United at Old Trafford in the second leg of the last-16 of the Champions League. The game is evenly balanced at 1-1 and the visitors need to score in order to have any hopes of progressing to the quarter-finals. United's Patrice Evra has stated ahead of the crucial clash that Ronaldo could be affected by the emotion surrounding his first ever return to Old Trafford since his blockbuster move.
"This is your home, so there will be a lot of emotions. Hopefully that stops you from playing well."
