Man Utd Transfer News: Cristiano Ronaldo Will Take Pay Cut To Return

By Joseph Dempsey /

The Sun. Qatar-owned Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to offer a package worth £130 million to tempt the mega-star to France, but Ronaldo has made his advisers aware that he is prepared to forego the huge offer and return to Old Trafford for half the amount instead. Ronaldo, who left United in 2009 in a blockbuster £80 million deal, proved his worth to the reigning Spanish Champions again yesterday as he helped his team defeat famous rivals Barcelona for the second time in the space of a week. But Real are coming to terms with the prospect that they could be forced into selling their star player, according to the same report. The Portuguese ace has still yet to sign a new contract at the Bernabeu, and with his current deal set to run out in two seasons, his market value would plummet if he ran down the remainder of his deal before letting it expire. Real could therefore be tempted into cashing in, and PSG, who are backed by Qatari billionaires, will pay whatever it takes to get their man and will offer him an eye-watering £500,000 a week over five years. United, who hammered Norwich 4-0 yesterday thanks to summer signing Shinji Kagawa€™s hat-trick and a thunderbolt from Wayne Rooney, would rival the French side's offer by raising Ronaldo€™s current Real wage from £215,000-a-week to match Rooney€™s £250,000-per-week deal. There would be lucrative bonuses and image rights on top of that, too, and Sir Alex Ferguson will be encouraged that it is a move to the Premier League, and not France, that the player has his heart set on.
