Man Utd Transfer News: David Moyes Refuses To Deny Gareth Bale Interest

By Joseph Dempsey /

BBC. Real Madrid have been linked with the 24-year-old all summer and have submitted a world record £86 million bid for the Wales international, but Spurs have not accepted the offer yet. And now, it has since emerged that Los Blancos could have some serious competition in the race to sign Bale, when it appeared as though the move was a done deal. Asked whether it was United who had submitted the rival bid, Moyes said after his side's 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford:

"I said at the start when I got the job that Manchester United will always be interested in the best players and we're always looking to try to improve the team. "The owners have given me every opportunity to bring in who I want and we'll continue to try and find those players. "It's been tough in this window but we're always looking at the best players. I can't give you any more."
Real are still believed to be favourites to sign the double PFA Player of the Year, while former United assistant manager Mike Phelan expects Bale to join the Spanish giants.
"I'd be extremely surprised if Bale doesn't join Real Madrid in the next couple of days. "Man United would be in position to do a deal of that magnitude if they wished. It would be hugely disappointing for Bale if it didn't happen. "Good players are always targets and he's been a consistently good player. It's no surprise that he's attracted massive attention."
Another team who could have submitted the rival bid for Bale is French money-bags Paris Saint-Germain. The Ligue 1 champions have also been linked with the midfielder this summer and have money to burn. Bale scored 21 Premier League goals in 33 appearances last season and was Tottenham's top goalscorer, but he has yet to play for them this season and missed most of their pre-season campaign.
