Daily Mirror, unsettled Manchester United winger Nani is threatening to leave the club on a free once his contract runs out. Nani has two years left on his current contract but after failing to agree an extension on his current deal, the Mirror are suggesting that he is now looking at the possibility of leaving on a free. The paper are reporting that Nani is unhappy at having been offered to Zenit St Petersburg last week, against his wishes and purposefully asked for wages in excess of £200k a week in order to put the Russians off, as well as turning his mobile off to avoid contact. A source close to the player said:

€œIt wasn€™t an accident that Nani was incommunicado. He told his agent to ask for silly money if Zenit wanted to talk. He expected them to turn him down flat, but they still wanted to talk. In the end, Nani turned off his phone and told people he was with at the time not to divulge his whereabouts if anyone called them. He doesn€™t want to go. He€™s happy to sit there and see out his deal if United make things this difficult.€
The Mirror are suggesting that Nani had hoped his current club would offer him a new deal worth £130k a week, but is now threatening to let his contract run down. If Nani was to leave Manchester United, manager Sir Alex Ferguson can choose Valencia, Young, Welbeck or Rooney to fill in the gap, as well as Shinji Kagawa and Robin van Persie who are also capable of playing wide. It is that surfeit of options that the Mirror are suggesting is behind Sir Alex's decision to make Nani surplus to requirements, and try to get back some of the funds paid out over the summer. What do you think United fans - should United have tried to get rid of Nani to Zenit, or does he still have a future at Old Trafford? Share your thoughts below...
