Man Utd Transfer News: Old Trafford Reception Could See Wayne Rooney Join Chelsea

By Matt Robinson /

The Sun, Wayne Rooney will walk away from Premier League champions Manchester United to join rivals Chelsea, should the Old Trafford fans boo the striker once he returns from injury. Newly appointed Manchester United manager, David Moyes, remains adamant that the England forward will not be sold this summer despite the player being tangled in a summer saga with Chelsea. Rooney is being advertised to feature in the pre-season friendly game against AIK on Tuesday of next week and will likely be part of the side that welcomes Sevilla for Rio Ferdinand€™s testimonial on the Friday. With Chelsea having already had a £27 million bid rejected for the unhappy striker, The Blues, now managed under Jose Mourinho, will likely wait to see what reaction the the striker gets next week. The 27-year-old has been disappointed at his position at Old Trafford after being made second fiddle to last year's new addition, Robin van Persie, who was favoured by former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. With tensions rising, Rooney then handed in his second transfer request in the last three years, something which Sir Alex confirmed after his last game in charge of the club. Rooney is now said to be €˜angry and confused€™ by the comments of his new manager. During the Red Devils' Pre-season tour of Asia, Moyes said:

€œOverall my thought on Wayne is that if for any reason we get an injury to Robin van Persie we are going to need him.€
The report suggests that Wayne Rooney would force a move to Stamford Bridge should he receive a poor reception from the Old Trafford crowd. Wayne Rooney received a mixture of cheers and jeers from the crowd during the club€™s 2012/13 Premier League trophy parade around Manchester in earlier this year.
